Activities and trips

Las Palmas is a unique place full of attractions, not only along Canteras and in the city, but also beyond – you can easily rent a car and explore the entire island in just a few hours. Below are a few activities that have brought us great joy over the years.

CAR RENTAL

It's worth renting a car (cheap – around 40 euros per day) from Auto Moreno on Sagasta Street 37 (10 minutes from the house). If you're renting for at least a week, which I recommend, buy a parking space in the underground garage near the house in the La Puntilla neighborhood.

WILD BEACH

A 20-minute walk from the house, to the right along the cliff, there is a wild beach and a land of volcanoes.

It's worth walking along the rocks and further along the volcanoes. Higher up, you can see the ancient caves of the Guanches —the original inhabitants of the island.

MOUNTAIN TRIP

A trip that we tick off almost every time we visit is definitely a hike to Roque Nublo - an 80-meter-high volcanic rock.

The trail starts at the Degollada De La Goleta parking lot - it is of medium difficulty, perfect for a light effort with beautiful views.

After your walk, it's worth grilling at the Llanos de La Pez picnic spot. Feel free to bring your own barbecue equipment from our house.

We have some proven ideas for several-hour trips into the interior of the island.

ICONIC TOWNS

Take a stroll through small towns like Teror , Firgas , and Arucas . Coffee here, churros there, prayer at the Cathedral of Santa Maria de Pino in Terror, the steps of Firgas, and finally, the black cathedral in Arucas and the local rum distillery.

FOR SMALLER

A great excursion for younger guests will be a visit to Palmitos Park , Aqualand and a submarine cruise near Puerto de Mogán .

Palmitos Park offers wonderful shows of dolphins and birds of prey showing off their flight from the cliff.

For swimming pool fans, we recommend Las Palomas , where you will also find popular sand dunes for great fun.

GARDEN, WINE AND VOLCANO

Entrada Inferior , Bodega los Liris , Pico de Bandama - This is a small excursion that passes through several interesting places – a gigantic botanical park, an entrance to the volcano caldera with a view of its interior and an interesting local vineyard and winery.

OCEANARIUM

The Poema del Mar Aquarium is a fantastic new aquarium with a unique design. The iconic, several-meter-high aquarium wall on the right is a sight to behold.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL TRAIL EXPEDITION

Cenobio-de-Valerón-1.jpg

A touch of history is offered at Cenobio de Valeron . This ancient cave complex, nestled in a volcanic cliff, offers visitors a glimpse into the island's pre-Hispanic history and the lives of the indigenous Guanche population. It is believed that this site was a grain storage facility (known as a "granary") for the Guanche people.

For more Guanche history and fascinating caves/exhibits, visit Cuatro Puertas , Cueva Pintada , Guayadequeravine .

DANCE

We have been actively involved in dance for years, so it is an activity we highly recommend to anyone visiting Spain - a great opportunity to move around, meet new people and soak up the local culture.

You will find several good schools nearby:
